Wraparound is often acknowledged for important elements relating to process – how we do it –  and product – what it produces.

This series of three sessions will focus on tools and processes that supervisors can utilize to assure that the plans their staff develop through team processes are reaching an appropriate and effective balance.

The series will be built around three key content areas found in effective wraparound plans; interventions that make a difference, support that helps people get through the hard times, and community integration or belonging as a key component to healing.

Each session will be an hour-and-a-half in length and will provide an opportunity for supervisors to interact with the material and each other around what they see as effective supervision practices around these concepts.

III. Crisis Response and Safety Programming: Knowing the Difference and Helping Teams Respond Appropriately

In most settings, the field of wraparound has treated the process of addressing crisis and safety needs as if they were part and parcel of the same thing and this has been evidenced by the expectation that facilitators create what is often referred to as a “crisis/safety” plan. This series of three sessions will provide a framework and process tools that help us treat these aspects of family and community life differently. Crisis is a time when we are not sure what to do. Safety moments represent real risks that can be proactively programmed for by teams. Each of the three 1 ½ hour sessions sessions will focus on an important element in this framework.

Smaller group practice sessions will be arranged, between the scheduled sessions, to support participants in processing and integrating the material from the didactic sessions. Each of these sessions will be 1 /2 hours in length. Times for the small group sessions will be arranged after the registration deadline has passed.

Learning Objectives:

  • Session One
  • · Overview and deciding about your response
    · Participants will learn to differentiate between crisis and safety challenges
  • Session Two
  • · Planning and activating help during a crisis
    · Participants will learn tools and processes for responding to crises lived by families supported by Wraparound teams
  • Session Three
    · Programming to increase safety as a part of the wraparound process
    ·
Participants will learn processes and tools that will assist in planning for improved responses to known safety risks lived by families and those near them

Presenters for this series are Rachel Sorg and Neil Brown.
